10° Canal Saint-Martin quick guide

Once a quiet, undiscovered area, Canal Saint Martin is now a city hotspot. Usually a hangout for the younger crowds, bars and restaurants line the canal, and on a sunny day, Parisians rush to line the canal, drink wine, and sometimes, be treated to some impromptu guitar playing.

An SEO-friendly H1 tag about Canal St. Martin

Canal hotspots include “La Marine”, a popular restaurant amongst young locals, serving modern French cuisine. (55bis, Quai de Valmy). Be sure to make a reservation (for dinner bookings). Just one block up, is the very popular “Chez Prune” (36, Rue Beaurepaire). Described by some as the epitome of the ‘bobo’ movement (bourgeois-bohème), you are lucky to catch a table at pretty much any hour but it is definitely worth the try. A great choice if you are looking to eat lightly: cheese and ‘charcuterie’ platters can be ordered until late. If you find yourself a little further up the canal, try “Le Chaland” (163, Quai de Valmy): typical French bistro dishes are served at both lunch and dinner and the outdoor seating area is lucky enough to be in full sun from midday onwards.

Apartment Parmentier, Paris Cons: Size-small and very cramped bathroom (sink was the size of a bowl). street noise at night (bring ear plugs), several burnt out light bulbs. AC and washing machine not working in apartment. Owner could not converse in English (for those who can not converse in French) but was very nice and had written information in English. PRO: Apartment was clean. Metro just outside front door, was a must given the location. Lots of local fruit markets and grocery shops. Wifi worked well. Felt secure/safe with apartment access. Given 2 sets of keys.

Apartment Studio Parmientere, Paris This is a great apartment in a good location and with metro and bus right outside the door. There were a few things missing but overall it had most things required. I enjoyed my stay and have already recommended it to others.
