6° Saint-Germain quick guide

One of the most prestigious and sought-after areas of Paris, Saint Germain (the 6th Arrondissement), is home to the historically famous Cafe de Flore and Les Deux Magots: once a favourite haunt of the French intellectuals including Sartre and De Beauvoir.

Today the area is well-known for its small boutique clothing stores, glamourous outdoor cafes and restaurants, antique stores and numerous art galleries.

Rue de Rennes, another major shopping strip is also located in Saint Germain; all high-street stores can be found here.

Should you decide to eat-in during your stay, a trip to the Marche Saint Germain, located in Rue de Seine is in order. This undercover market (closed on Mondays) offers everything from fruit and vegetables, fresh fish, a wine store where the owner will happily help you to choose the perfect accompanying wine, as well as several restaurants which surround the market. For dessert, opt for the classic ‘macarons’: the best are found on the corner of Rue Bonaparte and Rue Jacob.

As well as great food and shopping, Saint Germain doesn’t lack in the nightlife department: the Rue de Buci scene commences around 5pm with ‘apero’ and continues late into the night. The choice of bars is endless and the atmosphere is always buzzing.

Apartment Monsieur Le Prince III, Paris Lovely quiet apartment, great area. Perfect for our needs.

Apartment Studio Rue de Rennes, Paris We had a great 5 days in Paris and the apartment was an excellent location for walking to most things and had a tube station right outside. We loved the atmosphere of St Germaine, especially the Luxembourg gardens and the variety of shops all within a few minutes walk. The apartment is dark and a lot of noise from doors banging from stair door and other residents so more a place to have as a base rather than somewhere to relax. Good area to walk around at night, feels secure.
